The Science

Why scent moves you faster than music.

Olfaction is the only sense that bypasses the thalamus and reaches the limbic system directly — the part of the brain that governs emotion, memory and stress response.

01 · Origin

Born in a clinic. Made for everyday rituals.

NXTLVL was founded by Patrick Bruce Morales — a physical therapist who works with infants and adults recovering from brain injury. The practice draws on primitive reflexes, photobiomodulation, and sensory integration — the slow craft of helping a nervous system find its balance. Of all the tools at hand, scent did one thing the others could not: it shifted state in seconds. The Origins Collection started as a clinical experiment, with a certification in Aromatherapy: Clinical Use of Essential Oils from the University of Minnesota and a Trader License from Dubai Economy and Tourism for Aromatherapy Perfumes Blending & Bottling. It is now available to anyone who wants the same shift, without the appointment.

02 · Origin in time

The first sense, in time and order

Olfaction is the oldest of the five senses, both in evolution and in personal development. Olfactory neurons begin forming around the eighth week of gestation — long before sight, language, or conscious memory. By the time you are born, scent is already a fully wired channel to your nervous system. That is why a familiar smell can collapse you into a feeling you cannot name. The pathway is older than the words you would use to describe it.

03 · Hemispheres

Left brain, right brain, and the bias of scent

Your left hemisphere catalogues. It names and analyses. Your right hemisphere holds the gestalt — emotion, atmosphere, the whole picture before the parts. Olfactory processing is bilateral but carries a documented bias toward the right hemisphere. A fragrance does not arrive as a label; it arrives as a state. That is the lever we work with: a stimulus that engages the felt-sense brain before the analytical one has a chance to interrupt.

04 · Pathway

The olfactory pathway, in 30 seconds

When you inhale a scent, odour molecules reach receptors in the upper nasal cavity. From there, signals travel through the olfactory bulb directly to the amygdala (emotion), hippocampus (memory) and hypothalamus (stress, hormones, autonomic state). No thalamic relay, no conscious filter. This is why a single breath of a familiar scent can collapse you into a memory in 0.5 seconds.

05 · Composition

Five intents, composed deliberately

Each Origins scent is built around accord families with documented effects on the limbic system. Warm woods and resins anchor and focus. Cool florals and powders down-regulate stress. Citrus and aldehydes lift and energise. We don't claim cures. We claim composition — fragrance designed to gently nudge a specific state, on demand.

  • 01Comfort — green, vanillic, soft musks. Parasympathetic invitation.
  • 02Focus — oud, amber, warm wood. Grounded attention.
  • 03Energy — citrus, mint, aldehydes. Mood lift, lightness.
  • 04Calm — airy florals, powder, white musk. Cortisol-down.
  • 05Confidence — bold florals, spices, soft leather. Posture-up.
06 · Practice

From clinic to bottle

Every formula is composed in France with a perfumer briefed on the intended neuro-emotional outcome — not the marketing copy. We test on ourselves, on patients, on the founder's clinic patients. If the scent doesn't move people in the intended direction, it doesn't ship.
